Photo: Tom supervises as "Bob" steers downwind
(finally!) between St. Martin and Virgin Gorda
We spent two restful days in St. Martin before
setting sail for Virgin Gorda, our entry into the Virgin Islands. The wind
was from the east, often from the east- southeast, giving us our first downwind
sail in ages. The easterly swells were pretty large and the wind was 20-25
knots. The autohelm was acting up again, so we used "Bob", the
Monitor wind vane to steer us into the cut between Virgin Gorda and Neckar
Island.
We meandered into Gorda Sound just to see what has
changed in the 30+ years since we were there last and continued on our way
through the Francis Drake channel to Great St. James Island. We were too
late to check into US Customs, so raised our Q flag and anchored overnight in
Christmas Cove.
We are now at American Yacht Harbor, doing maintenance
and repair on the boat. Saturday, the 18th, we'll move to the Sapphire
Beach Marina to spend next week with Rob, Alex and Anastasia.
