We left Antigua on the evening of February 7, just
before sunset. We were all set up to sail a broad reach with an east
wind on our starboard quarter, but Mother Nature had other plans for
us. The wind backed to ENE and we took the whisker pole down and set up
for a
white sail reach, which was fine. The waves and swells were from the east,
making it a bit rolly, but much better than bashing into waves and wind, as we
have recently been doing.
We passed St. Kitts and Nevus during the night and St.
Barts in the morning and arrived at St. Maarten before noon. The harbor at
Phillipsburg, on the Dutch side of the island, was chock full of large cruise
ships. We continued on, passing Simpson Bay, and went around the point
into Marigot Bay. Marigot Bay is a huge anchorage, lined with hotels,
boutiques, restaurants and resorts. We only intend to be here for a day or
so before moving on to the Virgin Islands.
