Photo: Starboard Home at anchor in English Harbor, Antigua
We arrived in Antigua at 4:45 today, after a
four day, three night sail from Isla Margarita. This trip has been one of
the roughest we've ever sailed. On the last night and into the day, we
went through several squalls with 30 knot winds and heavy rain, and we were
sailing into fairly large swells from the north and the east, with an occasional
adverse current of 1 to 2 knots. We've decided that Mother Nature
really doesn't want anyone to go from west to east in the Caribbean Sea.
But during the last 10 miles to Antiqua, the sun came
out and we watched a beautiful schooner from Holland tacking along the shore to
English Harbor - a really lovely sight. As we entered the harbor, the seas
smoothed out, we raised the Q flag, found the perfect place to anchor and set
about organizing the boat. We had our traditional arrival meal (our
"comfort" food) - a tasty pasta primavera with fresh grated parmesan
cheese - and settled down for a much needed night's rest.
We checked in with Customs the next morning and
decided to stay a few days on this historic island.
