We left Gran Roques at 6 am on January 27, 2006,
picking our way out of the anchorage and through the reefs at Francisquis in
first light. We had 44 hours of rough sailing into 12 foot swells, 20 knot
winds and, at times, a strong current pushing us back. We finally arrived
at Isla Margarita at 1:30 am, dodging fisherman in the Margarita channel, and
dropped our hook. After provisioning, laundry, a quick trip to the Rabbit
Market, and some social time with David & Lynne from Wild Orchid, we set off
for the Leeward Islands on January 31. We are now 120 nm southwest of
Antiqua,
where we may make landfall, depending on the wind and weather.
