island of Borracha
We have left Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela, having spent a
week at Marina Maremares. We had a busy and eventful week there in a
lovely marina with very helpful and friendly staff and fellow cruisers.
The highlight of the week was meeting son, David, who was anxious to get out and
do some sailing after spending time in Lima, Peru, and Caracas.
We left at first light on January 13 and arrived at
Cayo Herradura (Horseshoe Cay) at 4:42 pm. We were a bit apprehensive
starting a trip on a Friday (old sailors' superstition) and on a Friday the
Thirteenth, to boot! But the trip went smoothly and this is a delightful
anchorage, protected from the northeast winds and swell, with long sand beaches
and reefs for snorkeling. We will leave tomorrow to go to Los Roques, 106
miles away.
