Photo:  Eric & Carleen on Island Time in Coral Cove Marina, Trinidad

We left Woburn Bay, Grenada, about 6 pm, headed for Trinidad, 85 miles away.  The weather was warm and balmy, with the barest sliver of a moon and Mercury visible next to it.  There was a steady 15 knot wind giving us a beam reach to a close reach as we approached Trinidad.

We could not believe how much traffic there was.  At any given time there were at least 5 or 6 sail boats within a mile or two, some faster, some slower than we are.  There were also a number of freighters, ferries and cruise ships.  This is a very busy stretch of water.  About 25 miles out of Trinidad, there is a very conspicuous, well-lighted natural gas oil rig that can be seen for miles.  It seemed like it took forever to put it behind us, but it was a very good landmark.

We finally met Eric and Carleen in the marina in Trinidad.  We talked with them on the SSB radio net twice a day as we came across the Atlantic and we passed email messages to and from their friends, the Gittlemans, who were following their progress back home in snowy Virginia.  It was really great to finally catch up with them, to be able to put faces with the voices on the radio, and to enjoy the camaraderie that comes with the sharing of a unique and exciting experience.  And they are great good company!
