Photo: The anchorage at St. Anne's, Martinique
We sailed into the large, protected anchorage at St.
Anne's and put the anchor down into a good sand bottom at 2:36 pm, local
time, 21 days, 6 hours and 36 minutes after leaving Gran Canaria. We had a
swim, Tom took a look at the anchor and we did some odd jobs, tidying up around
the boat and opening up the boat to air it out.
Sitting in the cockpit, looking around the anchorage,
we were amazed at the number of boats here. Many are charter boats and
catamarans seem to be very popular. But there are also a lot of boats like
ours that have come across one ocean or another, traveling long distances and
testing themselves and their equipment against the elements. We had a
champagne toast to our success and to Herb and his help. After dinner we
went to bed about 9 pm (Garry stayed a little later to listen to the vhf radio
in case Lorraine should contact us). And we slept the sleep of the dead
until this morning at 7 am. I think we are now all pretty fully recovered.
We made contact with Lorraine this morning and Tom will
pick her up at the Customs Dock when he goes in with the dinghy to check us
in. We have the French courtesy flag ready to deploy. Vive le
Martinique! C'est magnifique.
All's well on board-
Tom, Peg and Garry
