Photo:  Tom survives his trip to inspect the bottom of the boat

Before we left Puerto Mogan, we had a diver scrub the bottom, remove barnacles from the intakes, shaft and propeller, and replace the zincs.  The diver reported that the hinged basket which covered the water intake through-hull fitting was hanging down.  He would have replaced the screw it needed, but we didn't have the right size.  The diver told Tom it didn't matter, since the force of the water rushing under the boat would push it into place and keep it there.  Before we left, we made sure we had some of the screws we needed.  The fact that this basket with a diameter of 4 inches may be dangling under the boat has gnawed at Tom, and yesterday, he took care of it.  Winds were light, we stopped the boat, Tom grabbed his snorkel and screws and under he went.  Garry & Peg watched for circling fins.  He finished the job in a matter of minutes and off we went.

We've asked the other boats crossing the Atlantic at this time to report events that have been most interesting to them or events that have been humorous.  We've also asked them if they have learned anything new on this passage.

By and large, according to our traveling companions, the most interesting events are associated with catching fish.  Oyaragh, a boat from Holland with John & Jenny aboard, caught a 1.5 kilo Dorado, and they used gouda cheese and feathers to do it.  Pagos, from the UK with Adrian, Sue, Chris, George and Oliver on board, are the experts at catching fish and provide advice to the rest of us, who are still working hard at it.  We have caught two and lost two fish so far.

The wind was 10-15 knots through the night, and we now have 15-20 knots from the north east pushing us to Martinique.  The weather right now is beautiful and we're truckin'!  Tomorrow, we'll recount some of the significant lessons that have been learned on this passage, by even the most seasoned sailors.

                  All's well on board-
