New Weather Programs

The following programs are capable of receiving NAVTEX, RTTY and WxFax via a ham/ssb radio and a computer only.  They use the sound card in the computer to demodulate the signal.

JVComm:  www.JVComm.de

Demo program runs with "DEMO" on the page every inch or two.  Relativity easy to set up and run.

New version 1.30 now (March 2004) is available that runs NAVTEX, RTTY and WxFax and has promised some very interesting features. This version will be released as v2.0 when the documentation is complete.

SeaTTY v1.35:  www.dxsoft.com

This is a easy program to set up and get going. Nice program – nice price.

The demo runs fairly well but the upgrade is only $35 and allows better file management. Quite a long trial period but will require the upgrade when the time runs our..

MSCAN METRO PRO:  www.mscan.com

This program combines both WxFax and text (NAVTEX and RTTY) reception. Additionally, the NAVTEX can be programmed to only those stations you want to receive and only the information you want. (you can turn off the annoying mariner notices that they send with each broadcast) It also looks like they may be working on coding to selective receive RTTY.

I have found the program is very restrictive in "Demo" mode. A fellow cruiser that uses MSCAN found the service support after he upgraded to be very good and is happy with the program.
